timeline: 2026

tech stack: SolidWorks, Arduino Nano, ESP32, PCA9685, OpenCV, 3D Printing

Overview

A realistic, human-proportioned robotic hand controlled by OpenCV hand tracking. Real hand motion maps directly to robot motion in real time through a 5-DOF actuation system.

Design

Designed in SolidWorks using configurations to generate multiple finger variants from a single model. Range of motion and interference were validated in assembly using evaluation tools. Tolerance and DFM principles were applied throughout to improve 3D-printed joint performance.

How It Works

An OpenCV-based hand tracking pipeline captures real hand motion and maps it to servo positions on the robot. The actuation system runs on an Arduino Nano and ESP32 with PCA9685 servo shields driving each of the 5 degrees of freedom.
